43 years previously….

Year 2333.

Baden’s inheritance had funded the construction of the Meditation centre on T’Khul, Vulcan’s sister planet. His Father had been a shrewd business man, his half Cardissan half Human blood seeming to prove a potent career move. Son had had no idea how much father had acuminated over the decades and when Baden had discovered this fortune he knew exactly what he was going to use it for. His life had been a sequence of events that had led to this timely inheritance.

At first Baden’s skills at Meditation had served him well as they pleased his mother and the stress of the two week spells he had spent on Vulcan had been dampened by this natural ability. He had been able to remain calm during the Rel’Jol and afterwards regain inner stability through joining the elders in group meditation. Of course it was harder for him, the inpatient human side within looming over his training and deeper still the insidious Cardassian fraction calculating how to sabotage the rest of him to gain dominance and redirect the simple, ruthless and uncaring streak in him to self gain. But he had from an early age understood that he must be many things, such was his heritage; so contrasting, such a foil for inner peace.

Through his contact with many species the young Judd began drawing people to him. His fellow students of the mind admired his premature wisdom. Outcast Cardassians turned to him for acceptance as his Eighth breed status seemed a gateway to the federation, into which his father had taken him for his education. Vulcans looked to embrace his native side drawn to Baden’s longing to control all three within one form, as if it were the ultimate emotional control. He naturally sought to serve these people and they understood this.

Baden went on to qualify as a Doctor of Philosophy, travelled and practiced his skills and became happy until a terrible fate was thrust upon him. They said he would be immune, his Vulcan side being too insubstantial to afford him the pain the changes of the Pon Farr imposed upon its sufferers. Baden returned to Vulcan and sought guidance from his Teacher.

“You have never been hidden from the inevitable difficulties of being part Vulcan Baden. Our society has arrived at the truth through logical process. As must you.”

“But Master, I have been told by federation scientists that this wouldn’t happen. I came of age many years ago...I do not appear Vulcan…”

“Do not forget my initiate that within you are Vulcan and that we age more slowly, as I suspect you are. If you have inherited this extended life span then the Pon Farr would seem to be a logical addition.”
